JRES PTO Newsletter

JRES Families!

Thank you to all who were able to join us for our first PTO meeting of the year. We had a great turnout from parents and school administration. We understand that not all parents and teachers can attend each meeting. The meeting minutes are available via this link and on the PTO website. If you have any questions, please reach out to JRESCommunications@gmail.com. The next PTO Meeting will be Tuesday, September 24 at 8:30 AM.

The PTO would like to invite all JRES families to our Community Picnic on Thursday, September 5th from 5:00 to 7:00. Bring a picnic dinner and blanket for your family. PTO will be providing ice cream sandwiches from The Penguin Brothers. MiA will be leading two art activities for the kids. There will also be a clothing swap. Please drop any gently used children’s clothing or gear (no undergarments or adult items) in the clothing bins in the entrance hall at school until September 4th. You do not have to donate to participate.

If you are still considering joining the PTO or renewing your membership, please sign up for a membership here. Membership is only $5 per family for the year. Once you sign up you can download the Membership Toolkit app and sync the calendar to your phone so as to stay up to date with all PTO events. There is no obligation to volunteer or attend meetings; however, we are seeking volunteers to support the many PTO programs, events, and initiatives this year. If you are interested in PTO volunteer opportunities this school year, please complete our volunteer interest form here. Thank you to those who have already signed up to volunteer. The wonderful events and programs that our JRES children and families enjoy could not happen without you.

Students and their families are settling in to the new year. There have been so many smiling faces at drop off and pick up each day. Just a reminder that Park City is an idle-free community – idling is illegal in Park City and it’s not good for our kids’ health. Please turn off your key when you’re waiting to pick up your children! Thanks for you help in keeping our kids happy and healthy.

FUN RUN

The JRES Fun Run, our primary PTO fundraiser of the school year, is coming up on September 12th. Look for more information coming home with your student in their folders. Each student will have a fundraising page in Membership Toolkit to solicit donations. Prizes will be issued based on fundraising goals.

Volunteers are needed. Sign up here.  Please help us make our 2024 FUN RUN another BIG success. Parent volunteers are needed to help with prize deliveries leading up to race day.  We also need helpers on race day to cheer on our runners and pass out stickers for each lap our students run. Come join the Fun! Volunteers must be cleared by JRES administration as an approved volunteer before the event. If you are not able to volunteer, you are still invited to come cheer on your child(ren). Parent volunteers and spectators need to check in at the office before proceeding to the field.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to lead committees, serve on committees, and to lend a helping hand. If you have special skills that you believe would benefit our school, please let us know how you can help. If you are interested in PTO volunteer opportunities this school year, please complete our volunteer interest form here

Our Masterpieces in Art program is also reliant on volunteers throughout the school year. A big thanks to all of the wonderful parents that have already volunteered to lead, co-lead or act as a helper for Masterpieces in Art (MiA) this year already! MIA is a great opportunity to be in class with your student and work with them hands-on in art. If you missed the sign up, please sign up for your class here

For the safety of all students, volunteers are required to complete a volunteer form here and background check. Once you complete the form please return it to the JRES Administration Office. Once your form has been processed you will receive an email from the school district with instructions for completing fingerprinting for the background check. Volunteers will not be permitted to serve, including field trip chaperone opportunities and MiA, until the background check is complete and you receive notification from JRES Administration that you are cleared to serve. If you were previously cleared to volunteer and you submit your form no later than September 15, you will not require a new background check; however, you will still need to be cleared by the JRES Administration before you may volunteer.

Compost at Home and Help the PTO

As you may know, JRES has an incredibly successful lunchtime composting program – we’ve diverted over 30,000 pounds of food from the landfill by putting our lunchtime leftovers in the compost bin (extra food also goes to the Christian Center of Park City).

Now it’s your turn to compost at home! There’s a new opportunity for you to do so while also supporting our PTO! The Park City Community Foundation’s Climate Fund has partnered with Momentum Recycling to offer a curbside food waste pickup. They’ll give you a bin and a free caddy and pick your food waste up every week outside your home, and you’ll get your first month free. Sign up here and use code JRESCHOOL5 (for the 5 gallon bin) and JRESCHOOL16 (for the 16 gallon bin).

For every 10 signups from JRES, our PTO will receive an unrestricted grant of $250, and if we get 40 households to sign up for food waste collection, the Park City Community Foundation will award us with $1,000! This also applies to units in HOAs, condos and apartments.

A reminder that you can also drop your compost off in the brown bin across from the new preschool near the Big Brothers, Big Sisters bin - this is free of charge as a community service. Please make sure you collect your compost at home in a compostable bag.
